A unique piece of design born from the creative genius of Ettore Sottsass and first produced in 1970. The architect found inspiration in the sinuous silhouette of a wavy female hair, which was then transformed into an element to be displayed in one's living room, bathroom, or even in a luxurious store, spa or hall.
The frame of Ultrafragola, which encloses the mirror, is thermoformed in translucent opaline plastic material that emits a pink light, the lighting is supported by a double strip of 4+4 metres of rgb LEDs (120Led/m) enclosed in an opaline Pmma profile specially created for the Ultrafragola mirror so that the light is diffused at 360°. All components of the installation with neon tubes are available as an alternative light source to LEDs.
The brightness of the installations is the same, while the colour is slightly different due to the particularity of each technology. In the neon version (left) the pink is slightly warmer than in the LED version (right). Both versions take a few minutes to reach full brightness, the neon mirror will light up slightly darker, in contrast the LED will light up a brighter colour but will return to its characteristic soft pink within a few minutes.
To this day, the Ultrafragola produced is thermoformed from the only original aluminium mould from 1970. The assembly and all plastic components are hand-finished in-house, as is the provision for hanging. The back panel is made of fireproof forex. Finally, each Ultrafragola has a unique numerical code, stamped in the company, on the back of the object, certifying its authenticity and Made in Italy origin.
